A screen shot from
the Alert system.
Alert is a performance management
and a predictive
emissions monitoring system (PEMS).
conduct an overall plant performance
evaluation, said Cogsys.
Dagnall added, ”Mellitah uses a
comprehensive set of Alert KPIs that
relate to the four most important elements of commercial operation —
namely gas delivery against daily contracted nominations, fuel consumption due to plant normal and start-up
operations and steam production
based on turbine exhaust and HRSG
efficiencies. It also uses KPIs for electricity consumption based on the total
for all electric-driven plant items.
“This solution provides a number of
benefits in effectively managing and
monitoring plant performance by providing facilities to support contract
management, operations planning,
maintenance planning, capacity evalu-
ation and remote monitoring and diagnostics to optimize the use of technical
and commercial support resources.”
As well as contractual KPI, Alert can be
used to provide a facility for multi-machine optimization and “what-if?”
simulation of all process duties. The
Greenstream work follows previous
implementation of a system on the U.K.
— Europe Interconnector project at
Bacton terminal in Norfolk, England, a
link for gas supply — that demands balancing of the U.K. energy market. At
Bacton, Alert is also used for emissions
compliance monitoring and reporting of
gas turbine emissions in accordance with
European IIPPC, Large Combustion
Plant Directive (LCPD) and Emissions
Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) directives. As
well as onshore emissions compliance
the system is starting to be used offshore
to enable operators to meet the new
emissions reporting requirements for gas
turbines to be ready for the new regulations starting in 2007, said Dagnall. A
