package weight and compact size. TF
Series gas turbines, such as the TF50,
deliver up to 4200 k W of added power in
a center line drive package weighing only
2450 kg, according to Vericor.
The company also announced in the
last year that a naval customer has exercised an option for the purchase of 24
ETF40B marine gas turbines to be delivered over a 21-month span. Vericor
Power Systems, was awarded a US$29.6
million order that was an option to a
previously awarded contract for the
manufacture, testing and delivery of 24
ETF40B marine gas turbine engines for
the Landing Craft-Air Cushion (LCAC)
Service Life Extension Program (SLEP)
fiscal year 2007 requirements.
The SLEP program will extend the
useful life of the LCAC fleet from 20 to
30 years while reducing operating costs
and improving performance. Besides
main engine upgrades, the SLEP program includes installation of a new skirt
system, hull and fuel system modifications and communication/navigation
systems upgrades. Each LCAC was originally outfitted with 4 TF40B turbines,
providing both propulsion and lift
through an integrated drive train. The
ETF40B engine generates over 15%
more power, along with better fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance. Work
will be performed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is expected to be
completed by November 2008.
The company also announced the sale
of two center-boost packages to its Italian
distributor Diesel Center. This represented the first engines sold to Diesel Center
after the relationship was announced at
the Genoa Boat Show. Both packages will
feature Vericor’s TF50 marine gas turbine rated at 4176 k W, a new design,
lightweight ZF main reduction gear and
Vericor’s new Integrated Boost Control
that combines engine, gear and LOP controls into a single PLC.
One of the packages will be installed
in the second turbine-power Pershing
115. Ferretti Groups Pershing S.p.A.
builds high performance open cruisers
and its Pershing 115 maxi yacht is the
flagship of the division. The second
Vericor package is destined to repower
an existing yacht by replacing a diesel
propulsion system with a center-boost
TF50 that will delivery an additional 14
knots in the same footprint. Both engines
were to be delivered early this year. a
