Siemens Equipment for Co-op City
Power Plant
Siemens Power Generation (PG) has been awarded contracts to supply equipment to repower the Co-op City
power plant located in Bronx, New York, U.S.A. The scope
of supply for Siemens includes two SGT-400 gas turbines,
an SST-300 steam turbine and the balance of plant distributed control system. Siemens Power Transmission &
Distribution Inc. will supply medium voltage controllers
and turnkey manufacturing and installation of medium
voltage switchgear.
The 40 MW natural gas-fired plant will be an integral part of
Riverbay Corp.’s capital improvement plan. Riverbay manages
the Co-op City development and is the purchaser of this equipment. The total order volume is approximately US$20 million.
Recently Siemens also secured a contract for the Caithness
Long Island Energy Center in Long Island, New York.
Caithness will be a combined-cycle power plant on Long
Island that will provide a capacity of up to 350 MWe to the
Long Island Power Authority. A
is in the process of installing, distributed power systems ranging in size from 6 to 300 MW for customers in multiple industries. The company also designs and develops, under contract,
stand-alone power and heat generating facilities for rural areas
and urban industrial parks. A
Taiwanese GT11N2 M Upgrade
for Alstom
Alstom has signed a contract with Taiwan Power Co. (TPC)
to upgrade one of the two GT11N2 gas turbines to a GT11N2
M at the Tung Hsiao power plant in Taiwan. Implementation
of the new “M” upgrade package is scheduled for spring 2008
and will be completed during an extended hot gas path
inspection. The GT11N2 M upgrade includes improved turbine blading and combustion chamber.
The 1800 MW plant is located on the west coast of Taiwan
south of Taipei and includes 11 Alstom gas turbines and four
steam turbines to power four of the plant’s six combined-cycle
blocks. Commissioned in 1965, Tung Hsiao was the first gas
turbine combined-cycle power plant built in Taiwan. A

Kuwaiti Oil Project
GE Transportation’s stationary power business announced
it has supplied Petrofac International Ltd., Sharjah, United
Arab Emirates, with five diesel generator sets that will provide standby power for a Kuwait Oil Co. gathering center.
The four GE 12V228 diesel gen-sets, each rated at 2 MW
continuous, and one GE 16V228 gen-set rated at 2. 5 MW
continuous provided by Petrofac International will be used
as part of a major upgrade project at a Kuwait Oil Co. gathering center. a
