VIBRATION MEASUREMENT
Balmac Inc. has
introduced its
Model 230 vibra-
tion meter, which
stores overall vibra-
tion measurements
needed to check
the condition of rotating equipment.
According to Balmac, the Model 230 can
store a typical day’s measurements and re-
call them for later analysis.

ABB was awarded a contract from
Guangdong Yuedian Group to supply
distributed control systems for two
1000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired
generating units in the Hui Lai power
plant in China. The two high-efficiency,
low-emission units will triple capacity
at the plant and improve power supply
in Guangdong Province and the Pearl
River delta, one of China’s most populous regions and the heart of its manufacturing industry.
ABB was selected to supply the control systems based on a similar solution it provided for the plant’s two
existing supercritical 600 MW coal-fired units, both of which were commissioned in 2007.
The ABB solution covers the entire
scope for both ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating units — boilers, turbines, balance of plant and electrical
balance of plant (EBoP), as well as a
common auxiliary system for all four
units. The commissioning is forecasted
to take place in 2011, requiring ABB to
commit to a rapid delivery schedule.
This order is one of several that ABB
has won in recent months for electrical
and automation solutions for supercriti-
cal and ultra-supercritical units in
Germany, Holland and India. The com-
pany said ultra-supercritical units pose
challenging requirements on control
system performance, project execution
and post-project support.
AMETEK Process Instruments has ex-
panded its line of Model 5100 Series gas
analyzers to include a portable version.
The handheld, battery-powered Model
5100 Portable provides analyte speci-
ficity, sensitivity and measurement speed
of response.

EXTENDED COUPLING LINE
Victaulic has announced the extension of
its line of patented Advanced Grove System
(AGS) couplings for installation of large-
diameter piping systems. The company will
now offer rigid and flexible couplings with
the AGS technology for pipe sizes up to
1. 5 m in diameter for industrial process,
utility, water and wastewater applications.
